2D Shapes - Polygons

Polygons are 2 dimensional shapes that are made up of straight sides.

The word 'Polygon' is derived from the Greek words 'poly' meaning 'many' and 'gon' meaning 'angle' - many angles.

A Regular polygon has equal length sides and equal angles.
An Irregular polygon has sides of different lengths.

The name of the polygon tells you how many angles it has,
the most common are:

Pentagon - 5 sides

Hexagon - 6 sides

Heptagon - 7 sides

Octagon - 8 sides

Nonagon - 9 sides

Decagon - 10 sides

Triangles, Rectangles and Squares are also polygons because
they are made up of straight sides.
